Praised for his "rich and deep countertenor voice" with a "dramatic edge",countertenor Dr. Wee Kiat CHIA has participated in events in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Austria, Australia and the United States.Dr. Chia is a frequent guest soloist in the events organized by Bachfest Malaysia and International Christian Choral Conductor Society (ICCCS).He was the soloist for the US West coast premiere of Matthew Aucoin's TheOrphic Moment at the Music Academy of the West, as well as the Florida premiere with enSRQ, both under the baton of the composer. He participated in the professional première of theBeth Morrison Projects’Ouroboros Trilogy in Boston, covering the roles of Xiao Qing in all three operas. He was a 2017 finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions New England Region.An enthusiast in ensemble singing, Dr. Chia sings regularly with the Handel and Haydn Society Chorus, Schola Cantorum of Boston, Henry Purcell Society of Boston and Marsh Chapel at Boston University. In the 2022/23 season, he made his solo and ensemble debut with Viva Bach Peterborough in New Hampshire, and with The Sebastians in New York City.A Music Associate at Colby College Music Department,Dr. Chia achieved his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) at Boston University College of Fine Arts under the tutelage of Dr. Lynn Eustis.
